Gay Las Vegas Bars and Clubs, Paradise Road/Naples
Neighborhood
This photo shows Naples Street from across the
street (in front of Gipsy), from Paradise Road. All these establishments are
within half a block of each other.
Gipsy is THE place to
get your groove on. no matter what night of the week it might be! It is
primarily a dance club, which typically gets going after midnight, although it
typically opens its doors around 10 pm. Unlike many of the other bars/clubs in
Vegas, Gipsy closes officially at dawn, although it will close whenever most of
the partiers have left for other venues, typically 4-5 am.
While there are many
straight/mixed clubs you could go to in any number of the casinos on or off the
strip, this is pretty much the gay dance club to hang. On my last visit, they
introduced go-go boys on Friday night, and while not a huge turn-on for me, were
pretty hot. Expect Fridays and Saturdays to be very busy with the influx of
out-of-towners. Expect the rest of the week to be busy for about 1-2 hours, but
fun to meet other out-of-towners and locals.
As you enter, expect
to pay a cover, every night of the week. Many locals detest this, yet still pay
it. Once you enter the club, you are there - the dance floor is just feet away.
To the right are two bars, and typically three bartenders. On the busy nights,
expect to wait awhile to get a cocktail. If you take an immediate right after
you enter is another very small lounge area, with a small bar, but that gets
very cramped. Great for locals I guess. The dance floor is the largest of the
clubs I am aware of in Vegas, and gets pretty busy for at least a portion of
every night, but crazy on Fridays and Saturdays. One of the nice things about
the dance floor is you can actually walk all the way around it. To the very back
is a stage, as they do have drag shows a few times a week. To the left as you
enter is another lounge area overlooking the dance floor.
This is always the
place I end up going to for at least a portion of my night, as the energy is
good here. Have fun!
Icon is literally
right next to Gipsy, although you really can't tell from the photos. The first
two photos were taken from in front of Gipsy. I am not sure what the history is
as to why two clubs would locate themselves right next to each other, as more
often than not people head to Gipsy and spend their hard-earned money there -
perhaps someone can fill me in? I have found Icon to be a very cruisy bar, but
perhaps I haven't figured out its finer aspects yet.
No cover here,
although I believe they offer dancing on certain nights. As you enter, again you
are immediately in the bar. There is a large bar located in the middle of the
place, that you can easily walk around, and with seating all the way around.
There is an outdoor area all the way straight back. If you enter, go past the
bar, and to your left, there is a dance area, I believe with another small bar,
although it wasn't open when last I was there. To the far left as you enter is
an elevated seating area, better to watch your prey, I guess.
Buffalo is one of
those all-purpose sort of bars. No dancing here, and is touted as a leather bar,
but has not been my experience. It is a fun place to meet up with friends before
you head out to other places, it's a fun place to cruise, if that's your thing,
and it's a fun place to go after all the other places have closed or gotten
really dead. There is no attitude here at all, which you have to know I love.
It's not fancy, but it's comfortable. And it's open 24/7, which I always thinks
is such a cool thing, even if I were to never take advantage of it.
As you enter, again
you are right there. To your right are slots machines. Straight ahead is the
bar, which is three-sided, and seating all around. To the left is an elevated
'seating' area, and behind that to the far left are pool tables. Like I said,
not fancy, but go there if you want to ease yourself into the Las Vegas scene,
then head off to one of the four other bars/clubs within two minutes' walk.
I can't really give
you all the ins and outs of this place yet, as I visited it twice for the first
time on my last trip. It apparently has changed (it used to be called Sasha's?),
for those of you who know the Vegas scene. It is two doors down from the Buffalo
in a little mini strip mall, yet is quite different from all the other places in
this area. It had a drag show that was a lot of fun when I went on a Saturday
night, and had alternative/80's music and dancing when I went on Sunday, so best
to check the locals gay rags when you get into town to see what their weekly
lineup is, as being new and all, will most likely change.
As you walk in, under
the red awning, is a little entrance way, and the first thing I noticed is how
dark they keep it. Yet, it did not seem much of a cruisy place, so it must be
that the management is a little light sensitive? In any case, to your right as
you enter is the bar. Two bartenders, and I'm afraid the only place in Vegas
thus far I experienced attitude. Not sure why, as I am a pretty friendly,
not-too-scary looking guy, but occurred both times I went. As you continue
walking, then to the left, is either a dance floor with some limited seating, or
a large seating area, if there on a show night. Quite a mix of boys, girls and
drag queens, so be prepared for anything if you go!
This was the big
surprise on my last trip, as I visited this bar/club for the first time! On a
Saturday night, it was pretty packed with lots of cute guys! The music of the
night for dancing was hip-hop, which I love on occasion, and too was a pleasant
surprise. There was a pretty mixed group of all races, boys, str8 girls and
lesbians - and who knows who else!
As you enter, to the
right is the main bar area. It is again a three sided bar, with seating around
it. To the left of the bar area (again to the right as you enter) is a lounge
area. Straight ahead and to the left as you enter is the dance floor (or karaoke
area, depends on what night you are there). Way to the back on the left are pool
tables. While many of the bars and clubs had shirtless studs bartending, this
bar/club had the best looking bar staff of the clubs I have been to!
